Transport Options

There are three main ways to reach the city centre: Airport Express, public transport and taxi. We’ll break each option down further below.

You don’t need to pre‑book a driver or arrange a hotel pickup. It’s easy to make your own way from the airport—no rushing, no stress, and it doesn’t matter if your flight lands late.

Prague Airport is straightforward and calm compared to many European hubs. With only two terminals, navigating your way out is simple.

1. Take the Airport Express – Shuttle Bus

The Airport Express (AE) is a direct shuttle bus that runs between the airport and the city centre. It’s especially convenient if you’re staying in the Old Town or New Town, as the AE drops you at Hlavní nádraží (the Main Train Station). For solo travellers or couples staying nearby, this is often the most straightforward option. Tickets cost 200 CZK per person, and luggage is included.

You can buy your ticket in the arrivals hall at the Visitor Centre or directly from the AE driver—card payments are accepted.

AE buses run every 20–30 minutes, offering a direct connection between the airport and the city. The journey usually takes 35–40 minutes. Services operate from 5:30 AM to 11:30 PM, and the AE stop is located right outside Terminal 1.

2. Taking Public Transport

You can also reach the city centre by taking bus 59 from Terminal 1 or Terminal 2. Ride it to Nádraží Veleslavín, the final stop, which takes about 15 minutes. The entrance to the green metro line is right next to the bus stop.

From there, hop on the green line heading toward Centrum / Depo Hostivař. This metro line takes you straight into the city, stopping at the most central stations—Staroměstská, Malostranská, Muzeum, and Můstek

A ticket costs 50 CZK per person and is valid for 90 minutes, which easily covers the full journey into town. Travellers aged 65+ ride for free, as long as you carry your passport in case of inspection.

You can buy your ticket directly on the bus from the orange contactless machine. It prints a ticket that’s already validated—just keep it in your pocket for the whole trip. Tickets are also available in the arrivals hall from vending machines or the public transport kiosk. If you buy from these, remember to validate your ticket once you board the bus using the yellow validators.

Once you arrive at Nádraží Veleslavín, the metro entrance is right in front of you. On the platform, take the train on the right (Track 1) toward Centrum / Depo Hostivař.

Arriving After Midnight?

Night buses keep running after the metro shuts down, so you can still reach the city centre easily. Two key routes link the airport with Prague at night:

  • 907 Night Bus — passes Hradčanská, Hlavní nádraží, Karlovo náměstí and finishes at Anděl. It takes about 30 minutes to reach Hradčanská. Services operate from 23:09 to 4:03.

  • 910 Night Bus — travels through Švandovo divadlo, I.P. Pavlova, Kačerov and continues to Modřany. Expect roughly 40 minutes of travel. Buses run from 21:54 to 3:54.

Both routes are inexpensive, dependable, and a safe way to get into the city after midnight.

3. Taxi

If you’re exhausted after a long journey, it’s natural to want a quick ride straight to your hotel. If you feel like treating yourself, consider using Uber or Bolt rather than a traditional taxi. Uber is actually the airport’s official partner, and their branded “Uber Airport” cars wait right outside the terminal, so you can hop in with almost no delay.

If you don’t have the app, both arrival halls have Uber self‑service kiosks where you can order a ride and pay by card. There are also staffed counters with English‑speaking assistants who can help you book.

The Uber Airport cars parked directly outside are newer, premium vehicles (usually under five years old). They’re slightly pricier—around 700 CZK to the city centre—but very comfortable. Booking through the app is usually cheaper than using the kiosk.

If you’d prefer a more budget‑friendly option, simply request a regular Uber. Even the lowest‑cost category works perfectly fine, and drivers typically arrive within minutes. Expect to pay 450–600 CZK, depending on traffic and your destination. Friendly Uber staff are also on hand to help you find your car.

The journey into the city usually takes 20–30 minutes, depending on traffic and where you’re staying.
