Bintang Supermarket in Bali: Everything You Need to Know Before You Go

Bintang Supermarket sits right in the heart of Legian—though technically it’s on the border of Seminyak—and it has earned a reputation as the place where absolutely everyone shops. Locals, expats, tourists, villa owners, long‑stay travellers… if you’re staying anywhere near Legian or Seminyak, chances are you’ll end up here at least once.

Most people don’t just come for groceries; they come for EVERYTHING from fresh produce and snacks to alcohol, toiletries, souvenirs and last‑minute essentials. We’ve been travelling to Bali for years, and no matter where we stay, this place is still our go‑to.

This guide covers everything you need to know before visiting Bintang Supermarket

Where to Find Bintang Supermarket

Bintang Supermarket is located along the famous shopping strip of Jalan Raya Seminyak, right on the border where Seminyak meets Legian. This makes it incredibly convenient for anyone staying in either area, especially travellers based in Legian who often walk or scooter over to stock up on groceries, snacks, and alcohol.

The supermarket sits directly opposite the well‑known Warung Made and close to the intersection of Jalan Nakula, so it’s almost impossible to miss.

Parking and Opening Hours

If you’re arriving by scooter or car, Bintang Supermarket has parking available, which is a welcome bonus in such a busy part of Seminyak.

Bintang is open from 7 am until around 10 pm, giving you plenty of flexibility whether you’re picking up breakfast supplies early in the morning or doing a late‑night snack or souvenir run!

First Impressions: Bigger Than It Looks

When we first visited Bintang Supermarket, we honestly thought we’d be in and out in ten minutes. That idea disappeared the moment we stepped inside. What looks like a small neighbourhood store from the outside actually stretches across two levels and just keeps going. Aisle after aisle is packed with far more than you’d ever expect—groceries, snacks, toiletries, beach towels, SIM cards, Bali coffee, and even mobile phones.

The place is genuinely overflowing with everything you could possibly need: fresh produce, meat and seafood, frozen foods, household supplies, toys, home care, pet care and cakes. It’s the kind of supermarket where a quick stop turns into a full shopping mission.

Even when it gets busy, especially on weekends, the queues move quickly thanks to the huge number of staff.

What To Buy At Bintang Supermarket

1. Indonesian Snacks and Treats

The snack aisles are where Bintang becomes genuinely fun! Shelves are filled with Indonesian favourites  and Bali‑grown coffee. It’s the perfect place to pick up edible souvenirs or stock up on snacks for day trips.

You can find:

  • Krupuk (prawn crackers)

  • Pia Legong and other local pastries

  • Indomie in every flavour imaginable

  • Local chocolates and sweets

  • Bali coffee (Kintamani, Bali Gold, Bali Kopi Tubruk)

they have every flavour of noodles you could want
Bali's famous 'Luwak' coffee

2. Fresh Fruit & Vegetables

One of Bintang’s biggest strengths is its fresh produce section. The fruit and vegetables are some of the best you’ll find outside of traditional markets, with colourful displays of dragonfruit, mangosteen, rambutan, salak, and other tropical favourites. The herbs are fragrant, the greens are crisp, and the turnover is high enough that produce rarely sits around for long.

You’ll find:

  • Dragonfruit, mangosteen, rambutan, salak

  • Local greens like kangkung

  • Fresh herbs (lemongrass, kaffir lime leaves, coriander)

  • Imported fruit at reasonable prices

they even sell Durian - if you can handle the taste and smell!

3. Western and Imported Groceries

Bintang carries a wide range of imported goods including gluten‑free and vegan products. These items are naturally more expensive than local brands, but still far cheaper than what you’ll find in boutique expat stores.

If you’re craving something from home, Bintang is your best bet:

  • Cereals (Kellogg’s, Weet‑Bix, granola)

  • Pasta, sauces, pesto

  • Cheese, yoghurt, butter

  • Imported snacks and chocolate

plenty of sweet pastries to choose from
the large variety of artisan breads available

4. Alcohol and Drinks

Bintang is also one of the best places to buy alcohol at reasonable prices. Local beer is significantly cheaper here than in beach bars or minimarts, and the wine and spirits selection is better than you might expect from a supermarket.

Bintang has a solid alcohol section, you will find:

  • Local beer (Bintang, Bali Hai, Prost)

  • Imported beer

  • Wine (local + imported)

  • Spirits (vodka, gin, whisky)

  • Mixers and soft drinks

5. Toiletries & Essentials

If you forgot to pack something, no need to panic, you’ll find it at Bingtang including:

  • Sunscreen (much cheaper than beach shops, but still more expensive than bringing it from home)

  • Shampoo, conditioner, body wash

  • Mosquito repellent

  • First‑aid basics

  • Laundry detergent

Great for long‑stay travellers who need to restock.

this is the best insect repellent, much needed in Bali
anyone who has been to Bali would recognise the popular Kispray laundry detergent!
sunscreen is quite expensive in Bali, best to bring some with you although Bintang Supermarket is still reasonably priced if you need it

6. Home Goods & Souvenirs

The home goods and souvenir section at Bintang is where browsing suddenly becomes dangerous for your suitcase! It’s one of those spots where you come in for groceries and end up discovering half your souvenir shopping is already done.

Bintang  sells:

  • Sarongs

  • Beach towels

  • Kitchenware

  • Knick Knacks

  • Local handicrafts

  • Candles and incense

all the cleaning supplies you could ever need
they have plenty of traditional souvenirs
they even have a large partyware range upstairs

Tips for Shopping at Bintang Supermarket

  • Bring a reusable bag — Bali has reduced plastic use

  • Go in the morning for the freshest produce

  • Check the bakery section — the pastries are underrated

  • Compare prices between local vs imported goods

  • Stock up on Indonesian snacks before flying home

if you go overboard with shopping, you can even buy yourself a new suitcase!

We make a stop at Bintang Supermarket on every Bali trip, and somehow there are always new snacks and drinks to try — which we absolutely love. Hopefully this guide helps you feel ready for your first visit, and don’t forget to explore all our other Bali guides for more tips and inspiration.
